2022 Person of the Year

Michael E. GibbonsThe Mayo Society of Greater Cleveland is honored and excited to announce that Michael E. Gibbons has been named the Person of the Year for 2022. A lifelong Clevelander, Mike graduated from Saint Ignatius, earned his undergraduate degree at Kenyon followed by a MS in management at Case and a JD at Cleveland Marshall law school. A leader in investment banking, Mike Gibbons’ extraordinary background includes the founding of the investment bank Brown Gibbons Lang & Company, one of the largest and best known middle market investment banks in America. He currently serves as Chairman of the board of directors for Global M&A Partners Ltd, Dublin, Ireland. He serves on the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Preformed Line Products. He has also held leadership positions on numerous boards in the Cleveland area by advising academic institutions such as Cleveland Marshall College of Law, Case Western Reserve Weatherhead School of Business, the University of Akron finance advisory board, as well as Magnificat and Saint Ignatius High Schools. Further, he has served on the board of Great Lakes Theatre Festival and served as Vice-Chair of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. He also currently serves on the Board of Values in Action, while finding the time to coach his children’s football, soccer, and softball teams and to broadcast games for St Ignatius sports.

These represent only a few of the many achievements Mike Gibbons has experienced professionally, but what we admire most about Mike is the long story of hard work that began as a boy carrying the Cleveland Press, then working construction jobs as a young man in his college years. Everything in Mike’s background tells the story of sacrifice and dedication to this town and to its civic organizations.

His early love of Cleveland shaped his commitment to his wife Diane, his five children, faith, philanthropy, and his incredible abilities to bring people together in corporate settings to innovate and create positive growth opportunities for others.

We are honored by the example of Mike Gibbons and proud to name him the Greater Cleveland Mayo Society’s Person of the Year for 2022.
